Amherst College

Ngo Michelle

Hey, I'm Michelle and I'm from San Jose, CA. I did my undergrad at Amherst College in Massachusetts, where I majored in mathematics and statistics, and also started working on mathematically modelling infectious diseases there. Most recently, I have been studying the Bordetella pertussis genome for variants at the University of Michigan. My research interests mostly lie in modelling and analyzing human diseases, especially infectious ones.

B.M.S. College of Engineering, India

Radhakrishnan HamsanandiniHello! I am Hamsanandini Radhakrishnan, and I know that’s a mouthful, so you can just call me Hamsi. I am from India and I recently graduated with a B.E in Biotechnology Engineering from BMS College of Engineering. I have worked on a few computational projects like sequencing long ncRNAs in the Y-chromosome to understand their role in Autism Spectrum Disorders and studying gene duplication models using the yeast genome as a sample system. My primary research interests include computational neuroscience, population genetics, cancer biology, quantitative epidemiology and biostatistics, amongst other things.

Outside of the lab, I enjoy reading, performance poetry, watching specifically bad rom-coms, playing board games, and listening to indie music. I absolutely love going to the beach and am very excited about discovering the beaches of California during my stay here.

VIT University, India

Soni Neelakshi

Hello! My name is Neelakshi. I'm originally from India and have recently graduated from Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) with a B.tech in Biotechnology. Neuroscience, Computational biology and Cognitive science are my areas of interest. I have worked on anti-diabetic properties of Cirtullus lanatus (peel); Somatic embryogenesis and artificial seed production; and the effect of 1-deoxygalactonojirimycin chaperone on SAP that cause Fabry disease during my years at VIT. Outside of lab I enjoy playing guitar and reading.

Arizona State University

Tang Weihao
My name is Weihao Tang. I am from China. I studied Electrical Engineering (communication technology) about three years in Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunication, China. I transferred to Arizona State University in 2014 and graduated with a B.S in Computational Mathematics. My interests are mainly focus on numerical methods for PDEs and Mathematical biology. In the future, I look forward doing my research with a profound interest and make my PhD experience more valuable and more enjoyable.
Besides my school and research interests, I like to play basketball and swimming. I am also a foodie and love eating out at certain places.

Point Loma Nazarene University

Ustick Lucas
Hi, my name is Lucas Ustick. I grew up in San Clemente, CA and graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a B.S. in Biology and minor in Computational Science. I worked for two years in a lab at PLNU researching novel antibiotic resistance plasmids isolated from the urban coastal wetland. I worked both in the wet lab and did computational work during my time at PLNU and have grown to love both aspects of research. I am mainly interested in research related to the health field and have had experience in microbiology, genetics, and computer coding. In my free time I like to surf and write music, and I also own a record label/clothing brand.
